Welcome parents! Naturally, parents are the foundation of our school. If you are new to Montessori, you will need to be aware that parents are expected to take an active interest their child’s educational progress. The key principle is that parents help prepare the child for life, and his or her education is one part of that.
Maria Montessori discovered that young children are self-motivated. The nature and extent of this self-motivation varies according to the individual child. The parent’s role is to observe the child and determine needs. While school staff do this as well, the parents can observe the student outside of class, leading to deeper and broader insight into the child’s needs. According to Dr. Montessori, this approach is “following the child.” Bear in mind that enrolling your child at Peace Montessori is not just a commitment to the school, but also a commitment to your child. If you want to learn more about the Montessori method, please visit our About Montessori page.
As a parent considering a Montessori education for your child, we expect that you will want to participate and engage in his or her active growth and development. We recommend that parents research the commitment needed to support their child’s success in the Montessori method.
